September 2026 | Colton Mochtyak’s Path from First Dirt Bike to Harescramble Racer
This September, BCC is proud to shine the spotlight on Colton Mochtyak, a 15-year-old racer whose love for dirt bikes started at home and has grown into a genuine passion for harescramble competition.
Colton’s introduction to riding came through his parents, who got him his first dirt bike and opened the door to the sport. What began as a family activity quickly turned into something bigger — once he started racing, he never looked back, and has been competing ever since.
Today, Colton races a FC 250, putting in the work to sharpen his skills on one of the sport’s most demanding platforms. Among the different styles of off-road riding, he has found his home in harescrambles, drawn to the format over other disciplines. Unlike some riders who chase a single favorite course, Colton takes a broader view of the sport — he doesn’t play favorites when it comes to where he rides, focusing instead on the racing itself rather than any one track.
That perspective comes through in the advice he offers to younger riders just getting started: don’t burn yourself out in the first couple of years. Racing and riding constantly can take over, but Colton encourages young competitors to stay involved in other activities outside the sport, too. It’s a reminder that longevity in racing often comes from balance, not just mileage on the bike.
Colton’s approach — equal parts dedication and perspective — reflects the kind of mindset that keeps riders in the sport for the long haul. Beaver Creek Cycle is excited to watch him continue to grow as a harescramble competitor in the seasons ahead.

“Don’t burn yourself out with racing for the first couple of years, make sure you still get to do other things besides racing and riding constantly.“
